What happens during a power outage?
When your system detects the absence of utility-provided power for more than 5-10 seconds, the generator starts up. After start up, the system transfers power to the house in place of utility power. When utility starts back up, the switch back is very smooth- in most cases you won’t even notice.

- Propane is stored in an external tank on the property, which must be monitored and refilled when levels are below 30% full.
- Natural gas is supplied via the same lines which supply your house; these are run underground to the generator location.
A few older generators are diesel-fueled, but this is rare for new installations.
